Thank God it is Ramadhan Again

Assalamualaikum and a very good to day to all readers.

It is that time of year again. We've been filling our tummies for eleven months, why not we keep it empty for just one month?

I've been longing to write about the upcoming Ramadhan, but kept it very late (due to my laziness and my procrastination). Everybody is celebrating Ramadhan by opening tables for lunches. With all honesty, how much do we actually anticipate our special month?

I will try to make this writing as lay as possible. Sometimes I like to include verses of Qur-an or words of our Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) to consolidate my argument, but the truth is people prefer to read simpler things where they can finish reading it in less than two minutes or so.

Main thing about Ramadhan is fasting. Is fasting burdening? In a simple, short-thinking perspective, it deprives me from savaging delicious food during daylight. Another, it provides hunger. But, looking from a different perspective, I'm incredibly lazy, even to eat, so by fasting, I can cancel one daily routine of my life: lunch. However, it amazes me how some people can actually put on effort not to fast. The difference, the specialty of fasting is that, unlike other forms of ibadah where we have to put on effort, fasting is the opposite of that - we do not need to put on effort.

And yet there are people who still find a way or another to obtain edible food and eat it during daylight. They make themselves instant noodles, or they disguise as non-muslim indians or chinese, or easier they just ask their non-muslim friends to buy lunch for them. Usually, these guys aren't even awake during daylight on any normal days, but on Ramadhan they seem to purposely feel hungry and obliged to obey their tummies. Breaking rules are always cool, in any society, maybe it is coolest to break their own Creator's rules.

And secondly, prayers. Never leave your prayers, especially during Ramadhan. I hate to put on especially there, makes the sentence seem like it is acceptable to leave your prayers on other months, but lay speaking, there are a lot of us (including me) who leaves prayers behind occasionally,or sometimes oftenly. Remember, by fasting and not praying, it is close to having nothing. And, as a bonus by our Gracious God, the rewards for fardhu prayers are multiplicable to up to 700 times.

If you have received forwarded emails or messages saying about the things to do in Ramadhan, try to do it. I got one, it is a list of over 50+ things to do in this blessed month. But if you can't (I know I can't do it all), at least do the two things I've said: praying and fasting. As a muslim, we have five things to do to qualify us as muslims; the first one we do it all the time, the second one we do it five times daily, the third one, and the fourth one, too, we do it once a year. The fifth, we do it at least once in a lifetime. Now the time has come for us to prove it, that we are indeed muslims.

Happy Ramadhan to all of you! We have been incredibly, incredibly to live ourselves another Ramadhan, another month of blessings, rewards, and the night of a thousand months. So cherish this moment, not everyone is as lucky as we are to live another Ramadhan, and we might not get to live another Ramadhan, so don't make this one a regretful one. Cheers!

Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.
